Springs on your vehicle are the component that controls your vehicles' ride height. Most 4WD's today are designed primarily for good on-road comfort. If you want to carry heavier loads, or need more ground clearance, then a spring change is required.

There are three types of spring, coil, leaf and torsion bar. Here at   SA Suspension, we know and understand them all. We are major distributors for KING SPRINGS and also IRONMAN 4x4 springs.

TORSION BARS

Torsion bars take the least amount of space under a car, but also  have the least amount of ride height change possible. A typical  heavy duty torsion bar upgrade will provide around 30mm  increase in height. This is usually enough to handle the extra weight  of steel bull bars , winches or most other accessories that can  be  fitted to the front of your vehicle. Torsion bars were typically  used, in the past when a manufacturer designed an independent  style front end.

COILS

Coil springs are much more versatile because they can be  easily  utilised at the front or rear of your 4WD, they can be used  with IRS or a live axle, and are very quiet in operation. Typical  coil  spring upgrades are around 30% firmer than original  equipment, meaning better load carrying and control of body roll,  and can be designed to either maintain your standard ride height  or give up to 40-45mm increase in height above ground

LEAF SPRINGS

Leaf springs are seldom used in modern vehicles, although  many  believe they have the greatest capacity to carry heavy  loads. A lift   of 50 -55mm is possible with leaf springs, and they can be tailored to carry very heavy loads, although the heavier  the  load capacity, the harsher the ride becomes. Your original  leaf springs can often be modified (or reset) to carry heavy loads, with out the need for a full replacement set.
